Slow the Aging Process with Food

Chronic diseases, weight gain, incessant fatigue, thinning hair and aging skin- these are just some of the conditions faced by many as they age.

Too many people simply assume that this is the normal process of aging, and there is not much that can be done to slow the hands of the ticking clock. They turn to cosmetic surgery, liposuction, expensive anti-aging creams and lotions in hopes of maintaining a youthful appearance.

Yes, these may temporarily help your looks, but they do nothing to address the root causes of many of the degenerative conditions brought on by aging. Remember the old saying beauty comes from the inside? It is true; beauty and health both spring from the inside of us. The simplest and most effective way to slow the aging process is through eating an abundance of healthy food.

This has become increasingly difficult in a world of fast food and advertising gimmicks. Much of the food that is touted as being healthy really isn't very healthy at all. If it is in a fast food wrapper, a can, a box or a frozen dinner package, it probably is not healthy no matter what the labeling tries to tell you. As a general rule, the more refining and processing the food has undergone, the less true nutrition it contains. So, if all those low-fat frozen dinners and enticing looking vitamin enriched, low-calorie packaged foods aren't the most nutritious, what is?

Fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grain products, and high quality dairy are nutrient-dense food. These contain a host of natural vitamins, minerals and micronutrients that the body craves. Fruits and vegetables are loaded with antioxidants, scientifically shown to slow the aging process. Providing your body with nutrient-dense food ensures that your health is protected on a cellular level. When this is accomplished, every system in the body operates at optimal levels. What about getting adequate protein? Small portions of meat or fish, eggs and dairy all provide sufficient protein. In addition to eating only truly healthy food, be sure to drink plenty of pure water to keep the body hydrated and get routine exercise. These are the keys to a successful anti-aging lifestyle!
